As part of this week’s launch of The Oscar Project, I’m offering 20% off my subscription price for the next 48 hours. (In screenwriting, we call this a Ticking Clock.)
For the uninitiated, The Oscar Project is my quest to watch and write about every movie - 85 in all - that has ever won the Oscar for Best Original Screenplay as I then write an Oscar-winning screenplay (preferably Original but I’ll settle for Adapted).
In each post, I’ll comment on the film with a pragmatic writerly focus intended to satisfy fellow writers as well as lovers of film.
SPECIAL GUESTS TOO!
The Oscar Project is evolving in real time! I’ve realized this is the perfect opportunity to invite members of my community—writers, directors, and producers—as Special Guests to discuss a Best Original Screenplay film of their choice in Video/Audio Chats. These conversations will bring fresh perspectives and add even more value for my Subscribers.
CITIZEN KANE
My next Oscar Project post will be on CITIZEN KANE (1941) written by Herman J. Mankiewicz and Orson Welles. It’s one of the most famous movies in history despite the likelihood you haven’t seen it all the way through and a decline in viewership from young audiences.
Like many of the older films on this list, this project provides me and my readers with an opportunity to become better acquainted with the most acclaimed American films in history, films that may not be on the fronts of our minds.
For my KANE post, I’ll highlight the narrative importance of Raising Questions and the importance of crafting compelling Opening Scenes.
